Baiba Jaunslaviete

Associate professor, Department of Musicology

Baiba Jaunslaviete, born in 1964 in Riga (Latvia). 1983–1988 student of musicology, 1990–1993 doctorate at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Music Academy, 1993 graduation with dissertation on the conclusion of contemporary musical composition (on the basis of Latvian chamber music). Researcher (from 1992), lecturer (from 1994) and associate professor (from 2014) at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

Her special research subjects are various aspects of Latvian music – its stylistic and historical context. She has given presentations at several international musicological conferences (Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, Leipzig, Bonn, Marburg, Łódź, Legnica, Sofia, Rimini, Zagreb etc.) and has published the books and research articles related to various stylistic aspects of the 20 th -21 st centuries music – the interaction of sonoristic and non-sonoristic material in a composition, the oriental elements in Latvian choral music, manifestations of post-modernism in the work of Marģeris Zariņš, the use of the term of polystylism in musicology, etc.
