Ellionora Testeļeca

Emeritus professor, Department of String Instruments

Ellionora Testeļeca graduated the cello performance class of professor Ē. Berzinskis at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian State Conservatory and completed a postgraduate study course at N. Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory with Mstislav Rostropovich. Ellionora Testeļeca is the prizewinner of the 3rd International P. I. Tchaikovsky Competition and has appeared as a soloist with many symphonic orchestras, collaborating with such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Mariss Jansons, Yuri Simonov, Kirill Kondrashin, Leonīds Vīgners and others and performing concertos composed by P. Tchaikovsky, A. Dvorak, R. Schumann, J. Haydn, S. Prokofiev, D. Shostakovitch, J. Ivanovs and R. Kalsons. Since 2000 Ellionora Testeļeca is the Artistic Director, jury member and patron of the International K. Davidov Cello Competition. She is also the Artistic Director of the Rostropovich Cello Festival in Riga. Her former students play principal cellos at such orchestras as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Opera Orchestra and the Kremerata Baltica Chamber Orchestra. Most of her students actively perform solo, with orchestras and chamber ensembles as well as teach cello performance to the young artists of the next generation. In 2007 Ellionora Testeļeca received the highest form of recognition of the Latvian State – the Order of Three Stars.
