Jānis Kudiņš studied musicology at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) and received a bachelor’s diploma in 1997, obtaining master’s dgree (Mg.art.) from the same institution in 1999. In 2008 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis Neoromantic tendency in the stylistic development of Latvian symphonic music during the last third of the 20th century and was awarded the Doctor of Art (Dr.art.) degree in musicology. Since 1996 he teaches at JVLMA; he is the Head of the Music History Class of the JVLMA Musicology Department since 2007. On 2008 he was elected to the position of a docent and became the Head of the Musicology Department. Jānis Kudiņš has authored several scientific publications on various topics related to Latvian symphonic music, Latvian music history and style. He teaches numerous music history and theory courses for students of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
