Liene Batņa studied music at Bauska Pirmary Music School Choir Class, Jelgava Secondary Music School Conducting Department and at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) Music Education Department, obtaining master’s degree in music. Currently she pursues doctoral studies at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Latvia.
From 2001 to 2003 she was the conductor of women’s choir “Ausma”; in 2002 she became a member of the JVLMA Music Education Department. Since 1996 Liene Batņa teaches music theory subjects at Vecumnieki Music and Arts School, conducts “VIA STELLA” choir and is the leader of “LIRIUM” Ensemble. From 2009 she is the conductor of the Riga French Liceum Mixed Choir.
Liene Batņa has participated in numerous international projects, masterclasses and conferences. Various choirs have won prizes in international competitions under her leadership, but the most successful of these groups by far is the “VIA STELLA” choir - in 1999 and 2002 it won Gold Medals at the International Johannes Brahms Festival in Germany, in 2003 - the first prize at the International Choir Competition “Silver Bells” in Latvia, in 2005 - the prestigious third prize at the Choir Competition of the IX Choir and Dance Festival of Latvian Schools, in October 2005 - the first prize at the International Emīls Dārziņš Choir Competition in Riga, in 2006 - the first prize in the International Children’s Choir Habanera Contest in Spain, in 2007 – the first prize and the Grand Prix at "Music Inspiration Landscape" competition (followed by a concert tour around Austria and Germany), in 2007 - the first prize and „The Minor Amber” prize at the XVI International S.Shimkus Chor competition.
