The 7th Jāzeps Vītols International Piano Competition will commence next week

One of the most significant events of Latvian piano music scene - the 7th Jāzeps Vītols International Piano Competition - will commence next week, organized by Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation.The geography of applications is impressive this year – the professors of JVLMA evaluated the submitted video and audio recordings, selecting for participation 47 young artists from Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Japan, Belarus, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, China, Norway, Romania, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Sweden. The performances in Latvia will be judged by an international jury - Ronan O'Hora (Great Britain), Juris Kalnciems (Latvia), Ivari Ilja (Estonia), Jurgis Karnavičius (Lithuania), Madina Fayziyeva (Uzbekistan) and Pier Francesco Forlenza (Italy).
Ronan O’Hora comments the competition: “It is with great pleasure that I am returning to chair the jury of the Vitols Competition. The distinguished history of this competition has shown it to be an important platform for very talented young pianist to develop their careers, and I have no doubt that the 2017 Competition will reveal wonderful new talents to add to the many admirable pianists who have shone in previous Vitols Competitions.”
The competition opening ceremony and drawing of performance order will take place on October 26, 6PM at JVLMA Great Hall. It will feature musical greetings by Ronan O’Hora, as well as the JVLMA Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Atvars Lakstīgala. The 1st and 2nd Round of the competition will take place on October 27-28 and October 29-30, respectively, at JVLMA Great Hall, whereas the Final Round at the Liepāja Concert Hall “Great Amber” with participation of Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gintaras Rinkevičius will take place on October 1 and 2. The prizewinners will be announced at the awards ceremony and concert on November 3 at 7PM at the Concert Hall “Great Amber”. The competition will be broadcasted live on internet. Admission to the Rounds 1 and 2 is free; tickets to the competition opening event, final round and closing ceremony are available at the box offices of “Biļešu Paradīze”.
