Vocal Masterclass of Marie Elizabeth Seager at JVLMA

On November 21 Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music hosted a masterclass of mezzosoprano Marie Elisabeth Seager. At the JVLMA Great Hall students performed opera arias by W.A. Mozart, G. Bizet, C. Gounod, G. Faure, G. Puccini and other renowned composers. Ms Seager comments her experience in the following way: “It was my pleasure to work with the young singers of JVLMA, as well as to share my experience about the practical side of the singer’s profession. Nowadays, the number of aspiring professional classical singers is increasing, whereas there are less working opportunities. It is therefore paramount for young singers to identify and develop what makes them special, while acquiring the basic set of tools they will need to have in a very demanding profession.”

KMH faculty members and students "Crossing Keyboards" with JVLMA

On September 26 and 27 in frames of “Crossing Keyboards” project JVLMA was visited by tutors and students of Stockholm Royal College of Music (KMH). On the evening of September 26 the audience of JVLMA LMT Chamber Hall enjoyed L. van Beethoven’s, R. Schumann’s, C. Debussy’s, F. Liszt’s and W. Stenhammar’s piano opuses skilfully performed by the College’s students; on September 27 the members of SRCM faculty Anders Kilström (KHM Classical Piano Department Subject Representative), Mats Widlund and Stefan Bojsten gave masterclasses to the students of JVLMA Piano Department.

JVLMA student Kristīne Pričina comments her experience in the following way: “The masterclasses were very productive, interesting and useful. I enjoyed both participating and attending the classes of other students. It was a refreshing perspective and I acquired many new ideas that I will apply to the masterclass repertoire as well as other pieces. The atmosphere was very nice and cordial.” Student Lelde Rasnace emphasizes the individual approach of tutors: “I felt relaxed at the masterclasses of KMH teachers, as they were kind and attentive. They explained their views on artistic nuances but left room for individual interpretations of each student and did not impose their concepts. My most useful realization was – never to be afraid to be different and surprising in my interpretations!”
