Collegium Musicum Riga

Baroque orchestra Collegium Musicum Riga (conductor - Māris Kupčs) is the latest addition to the performing groups of the academy, however several international projects involving active participation of guest professors and conductors have already taken place - these include many instrumental concertos and performances of oratorio by G. F. Handel Messiah (2007), opera by C. Monteverdi L’Orfeo (2007) and M.R. de Lalande’s opera Les fontaines de Versailles (2008)

Faculty members and students participate in the projects of the baroque orchestra, performing on historic instruments. The title of the collective was borrowed from the ensemble Collegium Musicum Riga that was active in Riga in 1690.

Regular concert performances of cantatas by J.S. Bach have been commenced with participation of Riga Dome Boys Choir. JVLMA baroque orchestra performs music by European composers – A. Vivaldi Ottone in villa, as well as by the composers of the 17th and the 18th century from the Duchy of Courland and Riga, for example – Die Jagd by J. A. Hiller.

JVLMA baroque orchestra participates in various international projects in frames of Erasmus programme. Masterclasses at the Early Music Department have been given by outstanding specialists of baroque music - Chiara Banchini, Evelyn Tubb, Erik van Nevel, Mona Julsrud, Rafael Palacios and Friedeman Immer.
