Professor Gunta Rasa

Gunta Rasa is a Professor and Head of Chamber Music and Accompaniment Department at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. She is working at the Academy since 1978. During this period she has proved herself as an experienced pedagogue, talented performer and efficient organizer. Gunta Rasa graduated from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in 1972, Prof. Igors Kalniņš Piano class. In 1983 she graduated from Postgraduate Courses at Gnesin Institute of Music Pedagogy, Prof. Fedorenko Chamber ensemble class. She is permanently improving her knowledge and skills visiting partner Music Academies in Weimar, Berlin, Brno and Copenhagen. She is an author of several scientific articles. In 1994 the MA degree was conferred upon her.

Gunta Rasa has regularly organized Student Chamber Music Festivals of the Baltic countries taking place accordingly in Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, which in in 2001 celebrated the 35th anniversary. For 16 years Gunta Rasa has been organizing a competition among the students of the Latvian Academy of Music of the Latvian Academy of Music for the best chamber ensemble. She has conducted masterclasses in chamber ensemble in Hochschule der Künste Berlin (1995, 2003), University of Southern Illinois, USA (1996), Oulu Conservatory in Finland (1996), International Youth Music Creative Camps in Latvia (1994-2004), Royal Swedish College of Music (1998), Estonian Academy of Music (2000, 2002), Lithuanian Academy of Music (2002, 2008), Royal Danish Academy of Music (2008).

Professor Gunta Rasa has been a jury member in several international competitions in Russia (Kaluga and Novomoskovsk), Sweden, Lithuania and Latvia. She successfully combines her pedagogical work with performing activities. She has been with guest performances in Germany, Bulgaria, Rumania, Finland, Norway, Austria, Great Britain and USA as member of various chamber ensembles.
