Oskars Patjanko

Guest lecturer, Department of Musicology

Oskars Patjanko is computer engineer, folk musician and researcher. He teaches diatonic accordion at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and works with Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music traditional music digital archive.
He plays Latvian kokles, diatonic accordion and with his band “Kaktu balles muzikanti” performs at weddings, concerts and folk dance festivals.  He also enjoys singing traditional songs and dancing and had teached Latvian traditional dances in dance festivals in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.

His research areas are traditional dance music and traditional types of accordions in Baltic region. He has published book about Latvian national diatonic accordion Ieviņas.
