International Activities

International activities of JVLMA aim to develop international cooperation and integration into the European and global academic community, to support and facilitate student and teacher exchange, to ensure high quality standards in higher education in music.

International collaboration is  based on short-term educational activities (masterclasses, workshops, seminars, lectures), student and staff exchange (in frames of Erasmus and Nordplus programmes), various events (performances, competitions, festivals, conferences, individual research). Those activities are supported at national and international levels by European programmes offered by the National Agency of Academic Programmes (http://www.apa.lv/), European funds, diplomatic missions in Latvia, as well as transnational programmes (Yamaha, USA Fulbright).

Student and teacher exchanges are organised mostly through EU Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) - Erasmus, which affords unique oppportunity for students to spend a study period in partner institutions. Students can participate also in short intensive study programmes - Erasmus IP projects.

JVLMA joined Socrates/Erasmus programme in academic year 1999/2000, and today we have bilateral agreements with 98 partner institutions in almost all European countries.

Since 2008 Latvia is full member in Nordic Council of Ministers education programme Nordplus which also offers possibility of student and staff exchange in frames of Sibelius, Espansiva, NordTrad and NorJazz networks, as well as intensive courses. Nordplus offers Joint Master degree in early music, folk music and jazz in collaboration with partner institutions in Nordic countries.

JVLMA has collaboration agreements also with P. Tchaikovski Moscow State Conservatory, N. Rimski-Korsakov St. Petersburg Conservatory and Belarussian State Academy of Music. Projects in frames of those agreements include staff exchange, scientific research, joint performances with participation of students and teachers representing several institutions.

JVLMA is a member of several international organisations:
