French horn player Gatis Evelons (1961) is a very experienced orchestra musician, fine chamber musician, soloist and an inspiring teacher. Since 2009 he has been teaching at the Latvian Academy of Music. In 2003 he started work at Emīls Dārziņš music secondary school and in 2010 became the Head of Wind Instruments and Percussion Department. He has also worked in several children music schools and has received acknowledgment for preparing new talents for national and international competitions.

He studied in A. Kalnins Music High School in Cesis and in J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music with our emeritus prof. Arvīds Klišāns. In 1991 he received 1st prize in Jurjanu Andrejs Brass instruments competition and 2nd prize in the Soviet Union Brass competition in Tallinn in 1989.

He has been an artist and concertmaster of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO), Latvian National Opera orchestra, Liepāja symphony orchestra, Riga Operetta theatre orchestra and several chamber orchestras as well as early music orchestra. G. Evelons has led a very active concert life both in Latvia and abroad. Together with LNSO he has travelled across Europe, Russia and Japan, but as a member of French horn quartet – to the Baltic States, the Netherlands, Germany etc.  He has participated in numerous television recordings. As a soloist he has performed with National Symphony orchestra and Operetta symphony orchestra.

G. Evelons regularly participates in masterclasses of many world renowned French horn masters: O. Darbellay W. Sanders T. Hauschild, S. Zempleni, P. Hoef, M. Maskunity, F. Wekre, C. Holding, L. Ford. S. Mead, Ch. Consbruck, F. Loid, E. Tappani, T. Kjelden, Kr. Lampert.
