Ieva Sumeja

Guest lecturer

Ieva Sumeja (soprano) has been specializing in the interpretation of early music since 2018. She holds a master’s degree in Early Music Singing from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA). She has also studied at the Vienna Private University of Music and Arts under Roberta Invernizzi and at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Music in Florence with Professor Romina Basso. Since 2023, she has been a guest lecturer in the Early Music Department at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

Ieva was nominated for the 2023 Latvian Grand Music Award as the Young Artist of the Year. She has participated in numerous international masterclasses in Latvia, France, Italy, Iceland, Belgium, Austria, and Lithuania, working with renowned early music artists such as Emma Kirkby, Sophie Daneman, Peter Kooij, and others. She has developed a close collaboration with conductor Māris Kupčs and baroque orchestras such as Collegium Musicum Riga (Latvia), Capella Concertante Vilnense (Lithuania), Corelli Baroque Orchestra (Estonia), and Capella Leopoldina (Austria).

As a soloist, she has performed in various early music projects and international festivals in Latvia, Austria, Estonia, and Lithuania, including the Early Music Festival Vivat Curlandia! and Marco Scacchi, among others. She has also taken part in several baroque opera projects, such as Galatée in Jean-Baptiste Lully's Acis et Galatée, Belinda in Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Autonoe in Antonio Sartorio's L’Orfeo, La Renommée in Michel Richard de Lalande's Les Fontaines de Versailles, Arcetro in Giulio Caccini's Euridice, and Gretel in Johann Adam Hiller's Die Liebe auf dem Lande.
