Marta Spārniņa

Latvian violinist Marta Spārniņa grew up in Madona where besides other interests she started to play violin at the age of six. The passion of making music grew and she moved to Riga to enter Emīls Dārziņš music school, violin class of Ludmila Girska. After graduating Marta studied in Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music with professor Valdis Zariņš, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with professor Michael Schnitzler and Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin with professor Ulf Wallin. Marta found it very important to come back to Latvia after studies and right before the final exams in Berlin in 2009 she got a concertmaster position in Latvian State chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Riga where she plays until now. Marta has been guest in such orchestras as Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, O`Modernt, L`Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, as guest concertmaster she has played at Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Filharmónica de Gran Canaria. 

Marta loves to play chamber music, she regularly performs with different formations. 2011-2020 has been first violin of Spīķeru string quartet, since 2020 she is first violin of string quartet Sponte. Has been musician of foundation Live Music Now. Marta has participated in such festivals as  Pärnu Music Festival, Die Ittinger Pfingstkonzerte, Warsaw Autumn, Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival etc. Since 2019 Marta is teaching violin at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.
