Docent, Department of Choreography
Regīna Kaupuža graduated Riga Choreography School, where she studied with I. Baranovska, V. Blinov, A. Lemberga, I. Strode. She completed the ballet teacher’s courses of Moscow Choreography School in 1983 after studies with L. Kolenchenko, S. Golovkina. In 1993 she received a bachelor’s degree in Choreography from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) after studies with V. Meija and J. Kaprālis; in 1999 she received a master’s degree from the same institution. From 1971 to 1991 she was an artist of the Latvian National Opera Ballet and participated in all ballet and opera productions; she was a soloist in Cardas and Mazurka from Swan Lake, Chinese Dance from Nutcracker, and in other productions.
From 1983 to 1992 she taught classical dance at the Latvian National Opera. Since 1996 she is a ballet coach of the Latvian National opera and since 1987 teaches at Riga Choreography School. The list of her students includes J. Gurviča, M. Demjanoka, D. Radiņa. Students of R. Kaupuža have participated in numerous international ballet competitions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Jackson and New York.
R. Kaupuža has choreographed and produced concert pieces and ballets for Riga Choreography School since 1991, including La Sylphide (2001), Butterflies, Snow White and Seven Dwarves (2005). Since 2000 she is a manager at Riga Choreography School and has organized guest performances in Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Denmark, Hungary, Israel, Belarus, Ukraine and Slovakia.
In 2000 she began teaching methods of classical dance tuition at the Choreography Department of JVLMA. In 2008 she was admitted to a programme of doctoral studies at Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy.
R. Kaupža was the producer of Riga Choreography School anniversary book Ar mūzas skūpstu dvēselē (I.Bite, 2002) and books Haris. Viss par Haraldu Ritenbergu (I. Bite, 2007), A. Leimanis un Latvijas Nacionālās operas balets (2008); she co-produced photo albums Helena Tangijeva-Birzniece (I. Bite, 2007) and Dievišķā Anna (E. Tivums, 2009). In 2000 she founded the Latvian Ballet and Dance Guild and is its Board Chairwoman.
