Colleagues and all interested readers are invited to explore the special issue 2025 entitled Sound Cognition and Performance: from Mind to Meaning, of our scientific journal Mūzikas akadēmijas raksti (scriptamusica.lv) dedicated entirely to research in systematic musicology – first of its kind in Latvia.
The volume brings together research by scholars from Latvia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, exploring the multifaceted nature of music and its connections with a range of academic disciplines. The articles address the interaction between music and language perception, Cognitive Ear Training, individual differences in musical abilities and music processing, neurodiversity, musical development and well-being, as well as the intersections of music, the brain, neuroscience, and technology.
Research in systematic musicology increasingly develops at the intersection of different fields, bringing together the study of music perception and performance with insights from neurolinguistics, neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and related disciplines. Taken together, the studies in this collection form a coherent narrative about sound as a core element of perception, cognition, mental development, and creative activity.
