Janīna Martinsone graduated Stage Direction Department of the Moscow Academy of Culture (1970) where she studied with J. Sergeyevska, V. Uralska, T. Ustinova, G. Naskiunova; she also studied at Lunacharsky Institute of Theatre Arts (1981-1982) with T. Tkachenko, B. Borzova. From 1970 to 1973 she was a dancer of Baltic Military District Song and Dance Ensemble; from 1973 to 1979 she was a teacher and choreographer of folk dance ensemble Uguntiņa. In 1976 she began teaching at the Stage Movement, Acting and Vocal Music Department of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, since 1977 she teaches ballet, character dance and historic dance subjects at JVLMA.
Janīna Martinsone has attended Contemporary Etiquette courses read by V. Murashov at Moscow Central House of Artists; from 1992 to 1996 she taught at I.Adamoviča Ballet Studio; from 1995 to 2000 she taught character dance at Riga Choreography School. Since 1999 she teaches at Z.Errs Ballet Studio.
