Kārlis Zariņš

Kārlis Zariņš graduated Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in 1960 and further improved his professional skills in masterclasses of professor Ilya Josifov in Bulgaria. In 1961 he joined the Latvian National Opera. Endowed with a powerful voice in all registers and with a superlative acting talent, Kārlis Zariņš has mastered such testing roles as Radames, Othello, Peter Grimes, Tannhauser, Canio and Herman. He cooperates on regular basis with Bolshoi Theatre with such stage partners as Yelena Obrazcova and Irina Archipova. In 2004 he received the Latvian Great Music Award; he is also the recipient of the Aldaris Annual Prize.  He often participates in productions of vocal-instrumental opuses and performs as a chamber musician. Kārlis Zariņš has performed in many countries, including Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Canada USA, The Netherlands, and Great Britain.
