On September 12th the opera scholar Lauma Mellēna-Bartkeviča as invited speaker by the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre took part in the 12th International Opera Critics’ Conference “Historical opera as topical issue – is this possible? ” and delivered a paper “”Historical” plot operas in Latvia: examples, meaning,r eception” as well as participated in discussion with the colleagues from UK, Italy, Poland and Lithuania.
The conference was dedicated to the premiere of the opera “I Lituani” (1874) by Italian composer Amilcare Ponchielli. More information here:
