“Duo Colore” – flutist Ilze Urbāne and pianist Diāna Zandberga offer an exquisite chamber music program NOVECENTO featuring the peaks of the flute repertoire of Italian 20th century composers. This artistic project has been created within the framework of the Joint Professional Doctoral Study Programme “Arts” and its sub-program “Music and Performing Arts” implemented by Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. Doctoral student Ilze Urbāne is interested in the phenomenon of the Italian flute school, as she has been actively cooperating with the world-famous Italian flutist Raffaele Trevisani for several years.
The selected music shows the diversity of musical expressions of Italian modernism, as the duo will perform the neoclassical "Divertimento" by Ferruccio Busoni, the romantic "Allegro di Concerto" by Leonardo di Lorenzo, as well as the surprisingly impressive “Sicilienne et Burlesque” by Alfredo Casella. Alongside the poetic piano miniatures of A. Casella and M. Pilati from the cycle "Delizie del genere umano", there will be gorgeous virtuoso music for the flute solo - both the dreamy and virtuoso Leonardo di Lorenzo's "Suite Mythologique" and the intoxicatingly complex Luciano Berio Sequence.

Ilze Urbāne is a flutist of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and a professor at the Latvia Academy of Music, as well as a doctoral student of the Professional Doctoral Study Programme. She frequently performs as a soloist and as a member of different chamber ensembles.
Ilze Urbāne started to play the flute at the age of seven at the Darzins Music School under Imants Sneibis. Graduated from the Latvian Academy of Music (the flute class of Vilnis Strautiņš). Then she continued at the Southern Methodist University (Dallas, USA), the Julliard School in New York (prof.Carol Wincenc), perfected her knowledge at Trevor Wye's Studio in England and at James Galway in Switzerland.
Ms. Urbāne is a prizewinner of several international competitions: second prize of the Concertino Praga International Competition (1986),  first prize of the All-Union Competition in the former USSR (1987), second prize of the International Competition in Bern (Switzerland, 2000). She has been performing in the USA, France, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Japan and has appeared as a soloist with prominent American and European orchestras, such as the Moscow Virtuosi under the baton of Vladimir Spivakov and KREMERata Baltica under Gidon Kremer.

Diāna Zandberga is a pianist, the Director of the Professional Doctoral Study Programme at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, a faculty member of the Piano Department and researcher at the Scientific Research Centre.
Having obtained a master’s degree in piano performance at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music with Prof. Juris Kalnciems, in 2014 Diāna Zandberga completed her PhD studies with Professors Jeļena Ļebedeva and Sergejs Osokins.
Between 2000 and 2004 she studied with the legendary pianist Lazar Berman at the European Academy of Music in Erba (Italy), and for the following four years she improved her performance with the world-famous Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha at the Granados Marshall Academy in Barcelona.
She has won acclaim for a succession of recitals throughout Europe, Russia, and the USA, has premiered piano works by dozens of different composers, recorded seven piano music albums, including works by Latvian composers – Dace Aperāne “Sounds and Echoes” (Skani, 2015) and Imants Zemzaris “Eine andere Wandererfantasie” (Skani, 2021).
