For the 27th time, thanks to cooperation with the Japanese musical instrument manufacturer Yamaha, Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) has the opportunity to support one JVLMA student by awarding him a one-time Yamaha scholarship in the amount of EUR 1000.
Scholarship applicants were judged by the chairman of the jury Anete Toča (executive director of Sinfonietta Riga, orchestra flutist) and members of the jury Pēteris Endzelis (concertmaster of Sinfonietta Riga and Latvian National Opera and Ballet oboe group), Mārcis Kūlis (clarinetist, teacher of clarinet playing Alfreds Kalniņa Cesis music school) and Alejandro Áyax Llorente Gómez (saxophonist, winner of the Jurjans Andrejs VII International Woodwind Competition).
According to the jury, the student Darya Baranova became the winner of the competition. Thanks to associate professor Ilona Meija, thanks to the concertmasters – associate professor Herta Hansena, who worked with the students in the preparation process, and lecturer Ieva Dzērve, who replaced her colleague during the competition!
“It is a great honor for me to receive a Yamaha scholarship. It will be a great investment in the purchase of a new instrument,” says Darya after announcing the results of the competition. “The competition is what motivates you to further develop your professional skills and helps to keep in touch with other musicians and share your experience with them. Especially now it is important not to lose faith in yourself and the music, so a competition where you can listen to other musicians and get comments from the jury is a “healthy” thing.”
