On October 29, in a beautiful concert that was also a fiercely tight competition, an international jury (Massimo Morganti, Rovigo Conservatory of Music, Italy; Torbjörn Gulz, Head of the Jazz Department at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm; and Assoc. Prof. Krists Auznieks, Head of the Composition Department at JVLMA) selected three finalists from ten semifinalists in the Baltic-Nordic Young Composers Big Band Competition.
According to the jury's decision, at the competition final on December 3 at the Spīķeri Concert Hall, we will hear compositions by Aarni Häkkinen (Finland), Theodor Björk (Sweden), and Tuomas Pajari (Finland) performed by the Latvian Radio Big Band. Congratulations!
The competition is supported by Erasmus+, the State Culture Capital Foundation, and the National Library of Latvia.
