The visit of Professors Juris Žvikovs e Sanita Glazenburga to the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro was truly a breath of fresh air for our academic community. Their warmth, generosity, and professionalism left a lasting impression on our students, one that will undoubtedly influence their future artistic and personal development.
From their outstanding recital to the inspiring lessons in which they so generously shared their knowledge, experience, and wisdom with our students, their presence was one of the defining moments of this academic year in our department.

In the last few years, my perception of contemporary music has been changing for the better and I find myself liking it and connecting with it more with every chance I get to hear it, especially live (as most of us do). That being said, the recital you gave us was, for me, the apex in that regard and it really inspired me to dwell more upon this type of repertoire.

I really enjoyed the masterclass, it helped me play a Haydn sonata in a much more convincing and interesting way. I also loved the concert, especially because it featured works I had never heard before and that were very different from what I usually listen to.

The teachers were very friendly, engaged, and objective throughout the entire session. The concert was very interesting, especially because of the choice of works by contemporary composers who are rarely performed in public (at least, I had never heard of the repertoire before). Working on Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 6 during the masterclass was extremely valuable for me. The professors helped me identify specific musical and technical issues but also guided me towards a broader understanding of the work’s architecture and dramatic structure, which deeply changed the way I approach the piece. The contemporary music concert for two pianos was a truly innovative and engaging experience. The performance was exceptionally well executed, bringing out both the complexity and the energy of the repertoire. I hope to have the opportunity to experience a project like this again in the future.

I found my time with the teachers extremely valuable, whether playing myself or watching my colleagues’ lessons. They were both very quick to identify what they thought was missing from my performance, and it made a huge difference immediately. I was particularly fond of their stylistic sensibility (I played a Handel suite). Regarding the concert, I was in awe of the rigor with which they approached the music, but also the sheer imagination and fantasy they revealed on stage. It revealed to me how big and interesting the world of contemporary music is and all the possibilities for exploring it.
